New Cellular Imaging Systems

A high-throughput system called Ariol is designed to automate and standardize the analysis of immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) tests results in clinical laboratories.

Ariol consists of a scanning microscopy system and an automated microscope slide handler to meet the needs of high-volume clinical laboratory customers. Included is a suite of applications that assist the pathologist and oncologist in their review of key breast cancer IHC tests. The system is also designed to detect micrometastatic cancer cells that may be found in bone marrow and other clinical samples.

"We are responding to a rapidly increasing market demand for the automated analysis of protein and DNA probe tests,” said Carl Hull, CEO of Applied Imaging (Santa Clara, CA, USA), which developed Ariol. "External estimates indicate that gene-based testing is growing at 20-30% per year in major clinical laboratories.”
