New Diagnostic Testing System for Cancer

A new test detects an abnormal protein in tumors to aid the early diagnosis of cancer.

In the test, called TAP (tumor abnormal protein), a drop of the patient's blood is analyzed to determine whether or not TAP is present. The abnormal protein is created by the metabolism of the cancer cells, says the test developer, Rising Medical Device (Cixi, China). The test is able to provide cell diagnostic information up to three years before terminal cancer has formed or before any clinical symptoms appear. The test has been approved by China's State Drug Administration and is being used in more than 20 hospitals.

"Cancer is the biggest killer of human life today,” said Hua Yeyu, vice president of Rising Medical Device. "By introducing our product, we hope that we can prevent this disease and contribute positively to a more effective healing.”

Rising Medical was established in April 2000 and its leading products include reagents and disease detection instruments. The company is also an associate of the Early Cancer Detection Research Institute in Cixi.
