Automated Test for Heart Failure

A fully automated assay for BNP (B-type natriuretic peptide) is designed for use in diagnosing heart failure. The assay has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Recent research has shown that elevated levels of BNP indicate the presence of heart failure, providing doctors with an important diagnostic tool in the early detection and management of heart failure. The BNP molecule is physiologically active and measures the direct biologic response to cardiovascular stress, providing an accurate reflection of the patient's current status. The BNP test is the product of Bayer Diagnostics (Tarrytown, NY, USA) and can be run on the company's automated immunoassay platform, the Advia Centaur.
