Alliance to Develop Automated Scan for FISH Tests

An agreement to develop an automated imaging system that will automatically scan and report the results of genomic fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) tests has been announced by Vysis, Inc. (Downers Grove, IL, USA) and MetaSystems GmbH (Altlussheim, Germany). Vysis develops and markets clinical FISH tests that provide information critical to the evaluation and management of cancer, prenatal disorders, and other genetic diseases.Posted on 11 Dec 2000
MetaSystems is a leading European developer of automated imaging systems for genetic testing. Under the agreement, the company will develop and produce an automated scanning system for use with Vysis' cellular genomic FISH tests. Vysis notes that MetaSystems has strong image scanning technology that includes the ability to simultaneously read and analyze multiple genomic signals within the nuclei of hundreds of cells and the ability for systems to learn to identify key cellular parameters and efficient algorithms. The system will be based on specifications developed jointly by Vysis and MetaSystems and will be marketed by Vysis.
"The ability to rapidly and precisely read, report, and archive the results of our genomic tests via automation is an important part of our strategic plan to provide a system capable of totally automating our growing line of genomic tests,” said John Bishop, president and chief executive officer of Vysis.
