A new joint venture in telemedicine will offer cardiology telemedicine products and services to targeted markets in Europe, which will include establishing medical call centers and providing remote cardiac monitoring equipment and services for patients with heart disease.Posted on 27 Mar 2001
The joint venture was formed by Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands) and SHL Telemedicine Ltd. (Tel Aviv, Israel) and will be called Philips Heart Care Telemedicine Services, B.V., in The Netherlands. The new venture will purchase monitoring devices manufactured by Meridian Medical Technologies (Columbia, MD, USA). The venture will build on SHL's success in Israel, which uses Meridian's equipment to provide home monitoring services for more than 55,000 heart patients.
The first telemedicine products to be supplied by Meridian include a cardiac monitor that allows heart patients to transmit a complete 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) from home to medical personnel via a telephone line (CardioBeeper), a single-lead ECG device in a wallet (Cardio Pocket), a blood pressure monitor (Telepress), and a weight-trend monitor (Teleweight). All products are manufactured at Meridian's facility in Belfast, Ireland.
