Ergonomic Bassinet Offers Enhanced Neonatal Care

An innovative neonatal Bassinet with advanced design and ergonomic features allows the mother to remain seated while taking care of her baby.

The FANEM (Sao Paolo, Brazil) Koala bassinet, introduced for the first time at HOSPITALAR 2011, held during May 2011 in Sao Paolo, (Brazil), offers comfort and safety in situations of respite, transportation, and accommodation of neonates in a hospital environment. It also includes an adjustment system for height and angle, which enables the bassinet to be put on the same level as the mother's bed, so she may take care of her baby in a seated position. A mattress with memory resources provides superior comfort for the baby. The bassinet also includes handles to facilitate transportation, reducing the risk of infection during contact and handling. Other features include a storage compartment for placing objects (a feature common all FANEM bassinets), and an intravenous (IV) bag holder.

Another FANEM presentation was the revised Babypuff 1020, a portable device for neonatal manual ventilation with applications for emergency care in the obstetrics and neonatal ward, or during emergency ambulance and helicopter transportation. Constructed from reinforced metal, the Babypuff offers regulation and control of both peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) ventilation via mechanical valves that guarantee optimal oxygenation of the neonatal patient, avoiding atelectasia and barotraumas. A blending valve allows administration of either pure oxygen or an air/oxygen mix.

"HOSPITIALAR is an important display of products for the whole Latin American health market, and FANEM has always exhibited products with innovative features, catching the attention of Brazilian and international buyers," said Marlene Schmidt, CEO of FANEM.

FANEM also introduced the FKO 420C, a 19-liter autoclave, which allows the user to program time and pressure using an automatic control panel that includes more than 10 set programs. In addition, the FKO 420C features security resources such as 12 alarms with visual indicators, and a high-pressure relief valve. The autoclave is ideal for use in laboratories, esthetic centers, veterinary clinics, medical, and dental offices, and is manufactured with parts and components that meet European Community (CE) certification standards.
