The SmartWatch is a wearable device that detects excessive movements outside the normal spectrum, sends alerts, and tracks and records events, including the time, duration, and location of any unusual occurrences. Users can also summon help with a simple push of a button. These features provide users independence from constant supervision, while their family members and caregivers gain respite knowing they will receive a text message and phone call should their help be needed. Users and caregivers can view activity reports and download them at any time for thorough analysis of the patient's episodic history that they would not be able to obtain otherwise.
The SmartWatch works in conjunction with an Android smart phone loaded with the SmartWatch application, which has to be carried by the user or placed within a 1.5 meter range for Bluetooth connectivity. When the SmartWatch detects movement outside a normal spectrum it wirelessly signals the smart phone within seconds, which sends an alert to the caregiver’s phone, which can be anywhere. Alerts can be also sent or canceled by the user with a simple push of a button. The SmartWatch is a product of Smart Monitor (San Jose, CA, USA).
“For the first time, there is a technology that can be used to either summon help when needed or will automatically send alerts when it detects sustained excessive movements,” said Anoo Nathan, president of Smart Monitor. “We created the SmartWatch in response to requests from family members concerned about the safety and well-being of their loved ones.”
