Telemetry System Expands Capability of Patient Monitor

A newly enhanced telemetry system combines with a new patient monitor to provide doctors with noninvasive blood-pressure readings and to view electrocardiograms (ECG) and other vital information at a patient's bedside via the monitor, a palmtop PC, or at the central nursing station.

The new monitor, called TeleMon, is from Agilent Technologies (Palo Alto, CA, USA), as is the telemetry system, enhanced with 12-lead ECG capability. With TeleMon, doctors can combine the benefits of a fully ambulatory telemetry device with a simple and portable patient-side monitor. All data can be sent wirelessly to the Agilent Information Center, a decentralized system within the hospital for surveillance monitoring and comprehensive data analysis.

Agilent also has announced the availability of wireless communications for its M3 and M4 series of portable patient monitors. The monitors now deliver two-way wireless communications between the patients and the Agilent Information Center. The M3 and M4 monitors communicate information in settings where wired monitors are less practical, such as during patient transport or in busy emergency rooms where cables and sockets are not available.
