Distribution rights in the United Kingdom for a cancer diagnostic test kit has been granted to Surescreen Diagnostics (Derby, England) by AMDL, Inc. (Tustin, CA, USA), which developed the test kit.Posted on 16 Nov 2000
The test, called DR-70, is a noninvasive blood test, which has been shown in clinical trials to be able to detect the presence of one or more cancers 84% of the time. Cancers detected by the test include lung, colon, breast, stomach, liver, rectum, ovary, cervix, esophagus, thyroid, and pancreas. AMDL has also developed a test called PyloriProbe, also noninvasive, to detect the presence of Helicobacter Pylori in the stomach.
"This test is not expensive and could benefit patients who come from families where there has been a high incidence of cancer or who simply want to be screened for their own peace of mind,” said pathologist Jim Campbell, principal scientific officer of Surescreen. At present, says Campbell, many people often go to the doctor when they have symptoms, which means the disease has spread and is more difficult to treat.
