A blood test for cholinesterase has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The test is available for point-of-care use on the Analyzer from Careside (Culver City, CA, USA) and can measure cholinesterase activity in anticoagulated blood, plasma, or serum specimen.

Cholinesterase testing aids the diagnosis and treatment of patients with liver disease, insecticide poisoning, and other cholinesterase inhibition disorders. The Analyzer provides cholinesterase test results within 15 minutes when needed by hospitals, emergency rooms, or a doctor's office. This FDA approval brings the number of Careside's cleared or exempt tests on the Analyzer to 41. Careside also markets a companion hematology system called the H-2000 Hematology Analyzer.
