Pocket Laboratory Offers Fast and Reliable Diagnosis at Point of Care

A multi-technology, multi-parameters Point of Care (PoC) device combines two technologies in a single device for a unique evolutive panel of tests. The pocket-sized lab can perform multiple biological analyses from just a finger prick of blood and send the results via Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet.

LabPad Evolution from Biosynex SA (Illkirch-Graffenstaden, France) is a handheld PoC device that healthcare professionals can use to perform multiple lab-quality measurements directly with patients. With its miniature automated microscope built from two CMOS sensors, the LabPad Evolution can carry out blood tests from a single finger prick. The device uses compatible single-use SmartChip tests that are available in two formats: Tsmart and Ksmart, each for different types of testing. Tsmart is intended for coagulation testing as INR, consisting of a microfluidic microcuvette embedding a dried or freeze-dried reagent (dry chemistry) while Ksmart is meant for lateral flow testing based on visual or fluorescent optical measurements. The LabPad Evolution automatically conducts internal quality controls before, during, and after each measurement, and displays an error message if any interference is detected.

LabPad Evolution can operate as a standalone tool, storing up to 1,000 results in its memory, which can be viewed on its screen. Additionally, the LabPad Evolution is fully connected and can transmit results automatically via USB or Bluetooth. It can integrate with information systems for centralized processes such as operator authorization/identification, patient identification, quality controls, and results validation/management. The current available SmartChip tests are for SARS-COV-2 Antigen, SARS-COV-2 Antibody, and TP/INR rapid tests. Future tests will focus on nutrition and cardiac markers.
