Navigation System Integrates Knee System

An agreement to fully integrate the Advance knee of Wright Medical Technology (Arlington, TN, USA) into the Vector Vision surgical navigation system of BrainLab (Munich, Germany) has been announced by the two companies.Posted on 08 Sep 2004
Wright specializes in the design, manufacture, and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and biologics. The agreement forms an important part of BrainLab's open platform concept, allowing orthopedic surgeons to use image-guided surgery with their choice of implants. The Advance medial-pivot knee is designed to allow greater movement and flexibility in its recipients. Its patented design mimics the body's natural ability to twist the knee slightly side to side, closely simulating a ball-and-socket joint. As a result, many users report that the knee feels more like their natural knee.
To produce good and long-lasting results in total knee replacements, exact positioning of the implant and the precise alignment of the leg axis are required. BrainLab's Vector Vision navigation system helps surgeons optimize total joint replacement surgery. Both companies are considering the integration of further hip and knee implant lines by Wright Medical into BrainLab's Vector Vision.
"Our new agreement with Wright will allow BrainLab customers to further leverage their investment in image-guided surgery by being able to select the implant that best corresponds with their surgical approach,” commented Stefan Vilsmeier, founder and CEO of BrainLab.
