New products to improve diagnoses and surgical decisions by orthopedic surgeons are a structured medical record enabling them to perform studies, manage data and images, or track outcomes; and a digital spinal x-ray image analyzer.

The clinical data management system is called Profile, and it is designed to take the place of manual records of surgery and separate records of follow-up care. The data fields in Profile were developed with clinicians in order to capture events and clinical parameters such as measurements and pain scores.

The x-ray images analyzer, called Spineview, is designed to reduce surgery planning time by up to a factor of six over current manual spinal measurements. Spineview can help spine surgeons and radiologists analyze cervical or lumbar spine flexibility as well as spine posture and deformities. Semi-automatic image processing and automatic calculations determine all standard clinical parameters. Spineview is integrated with Profile so that clinicians can populate the database with measurement information at the click of a mouse.

Both products were developed by Surgiview (Paris, France). Under a distribution agreement, they will be marketed worldwide by Cedara Software Corp. (Mississauga, Canada).

"Our goal over the next two years is to come up with a complete leading-edge range of software products in data management, decision-making, and surgical planning, covering the most important orthopedic surgical procedures,” noted Alexandre Templier, CEO of Surgiview.
