A data mining and outcomes management tool called eQual is designed to help hospitals realize improved clinical and financial outcomes in surgery and intensive care, the areas of fastest growth and the most resource- and cost-intensive areas of a hospital.

eQual will give clinicians and administrators easy and immediate access to the vital data that will allow them to better manage their patients, processes, and practices. The new tool is part of the Savent product line of Picis (Arlington, VA, USA), which converts the data generated through care process automation into the information that clinicians and administrators can use to produce improvements.

The next product in the Savent line to be released is eBenchmark, which will allow clinicians to benchmark their own local practices and compare their best-care patterns against a nationwide data warehouse. Later this year, Picis will introduce Savent.net, a web-integrated host portal that will allow web-enabled access to Savent's tools, the data warehouse, and a community of online information and support.

"You no longer have to be a database analyst to unlock the valuable information collected by care automation systems,” noted Carlos M. Nunez, M.D., executive medical director of Picis.
