An exceptionally soft, helical platinum finishing coil, when used in addition to traditional coil devices, can result in increased volume filling and coil mass stability, thereby improving the durability of endovascular aneurysm repair. The coil has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).Posted on 30 Nov 2005
The new HyperSoft finishing coil has a unique design allowing easier placement and improved filling into small voids near the end of the aneurysm repair procedure. It also incorporates stretch-resistance, a feature that allows the coil to be more safely repositioned, if necessary. HyperSoft is a product of MicroVention (Aliso Veijo, CA, USA).
According to MicroVention, competitive testing has shown that the Hypersoft coil is the softest helical finishing coil on the market, and when coupled with MicroVention's delivery system, a doctor can place the coil with virtually no microcatheter movement, even in tortuous anatomy.
"The HyperSoft has become my finishing coil of choice,” said Mary Lee Jensen, M.D., director of interventional neuroradiology at the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville (VA, USA). "This coil seeks space better than any of its competitors, resulting in very dense packing.”
Over 150,000 cerebral aneurysm patients are treated annually worldwide, and an increasing number of these procedures are being performed endovascularly.
