A new vertebral body replacement (VBR) spinal spacer implant offers maximum bony in-growth area while maintaining implant structural strength.Posted on 14 Jun 2006
The Crystal VBR spinal spacer implant, manufactured by Quantum Orthopedics (Carlsbad, CA, USA), features generous grafting windows and a large interior graft space for optimal performance. The implants are radiolucent with radio-dense markers to enable accurate positioning and placement, and are available in seven heights angled 0° and 7°. Additionally, the VBR implants feature uni-directional ridges designed to prevent implant migration. The Crystal spinal spacers are made from Peek-Optima, a biocompatible and stable polyetherketone polymer manufactured by Invibio (Lancashire, UK). The system includes a color-coded instrument system designed to enable the surgeon to safely and quickly perform the procedure. The system has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Invibio's Peek-Optima polymer is used in the development of implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical applications having blood or tissue contact for more than 30 days. It is available in a range of forms that offer virtually unlimited design solutions.
