A new wound healing system combines an autologous pro-coagulant with a platelet gel system made exclusively from a patient's own blood. The product will meet the special needs of international markets where there is concern over bovine-derived products that might spread mad cow disease.Posted on 24 Apr 2001
The product was developed by (Plymouth, MA, USA). It requires only 10 cc of patient blood and is produced on the Harvet's SmartPrep System at the same time the system separates and concentrates the patient's platelets. When mixed with the pro-coagulant, the platelet concentrate forms a clot that starts the release of wound healing and bone growth proteins contained within the concentrated platelets. The product, which has received the CE Mark, has applications in surgery and in orthopedics.
Harvest established Harvest GmbH in Munich (Germany) in December 2000 to market its SmartPrep System and associated disposables. The company believes that the safety offered by a totally autologous product will give Harvest GmbH a significant competitive advantage in European markets. Harvest designs products that accelerate natural healing.
