Portable Endoscopic Camera Aids Onsite Diagnosis

A hand-held, battery operated endoscopic video camera is so small that it can fit in the palm of your hand.

The endogo portable endoscopic camera is designed for a wide range of uses such as difficult intubations and diagnostic exams by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors, urologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, and emergency room (ER) personnel. The camera has integrated viewing and archiving capability, and can be used with current optical flexible or rigid endoscopes in any clinical setting. Once the camera is turned on, it is ready for live viewing of an examination on a 6 cm thin film transistor (TFT) flip screen. Examination may continue without recording or the user may take video or still photos of the area to be examined.

Video compression in digital video (DV) quality is performed using MPEG-4 video compression. Stills are compressed using a JPEG compression algorithm (both are industry standard methods for data compression). After use, images may be transported from the removable flash random access memory (RAM) drive (SD RAM) or transmitted via a USB-2 connection to another computing device.

Image viewing can also be performed live via the USB-2 cable to a computing device or output to a compatible video monitor; voice recordings may also be captured while recording to annotate clinical findings. The endogo is a product of Envisionier Medical Technologies (Rockville, MD, USA).
