A simple and inexpensive high-pressure syringe monitor delivers and monitors pressure during discography procedures.Posted on 26 Nov 2007
The PowrSyringe Monitor is a one-piece disposable hand-held medical device intended to deliver ergonomic and mechanical advantages to a high-pressure syringe during diagnostic discography. The PowrSyringe Monitor possesses integrated crossing handles that advance the plunger into the barrel when the handles are squeezed, providing the clinician with tactile feedback for the injection. Since the clinician can control injection pressure with one hand, their other hand remains free to control catheters, needles, imaging, or other devices with tactile feel for the injection.
The PowrSyringe Monitor is a product of Pinyons Medical Technology (Park City, UT, USA), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company is also developing other PowrSyringe devices for angiography, balloon catheter inflation, spinal vertebroplasty, biopsy, aspiration, and other general applications where fluids are injected or aspirated (with and without pressure monitoring) to diagnose and treat patients or enable other medical devices.
"The PowrSyringe Monitor is a simple single-handed and cost-effective device that may be used for discography,” said Shawn Fojtik, CEO of Pinyon Medical Technology. "Single-handed pressure delivery during discography with tactile feedback can be an important safety advantage and helps improve patient care.”
Spinal discography is a diagnostic tool to physiologically determine if a diseased, herniated, or abnormal vertebral disc in the spine is the source of disc-related back pain prior to treatment.
