A no-needle delivery system for mesotherapy drugs allows the administration of soluble salts or other drugs into the body as an alternative to hypodermic injections.Posted on 29 Jan 2008
The Mesoderm delivery system utilizes water-based conduits in the skin to allow ionic drug solutions to penetrate, via controlled electroporation-like electrical pulses generated by the system. These pulses increase the skin permeability and allow the transdermal delivery of drugs directly to the target area with an efficiency of transport similar to the hypodermic injections. Both micro-molecules and macromolecules--greater than 800 kDa in mass--such as hyaluronic acids, vitamins, amino acids, heparin, antiinflammatories, and other molecules can be safely and painlessly delivered into the body. Also, by eliminating injections, mesotherapy procedures can be performed by unlicensed staff personnel under the supervision of a physician. Mesoderm, a product of AA Advanced Technology (Chicago, IL, USA), was developed by Microlab Biomedical Company (Pozzuoli, Italy), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
"We broke the Mesotherapy needle. The process is truly painless. There is no swelling, bruising, downtime, or other complications. MesoDerm means immediate results and ultimate comfort for patients,” said Dr. Dr. Aleksy Dobradin, M.D., who together with Dr. Renato Torre developed mesoporation technology at Microlab.
Mesotherapy is a controversial, non-surgical, cosmetic treatment. Mesotherapy employs multiple injections of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, plant extracts, vitamins, and other ingredients into the subcutaneous fat. Mesotherapy injections are purported to target adipose fat cells, apparently by inducing rupture and cell death among adipocytes.
