The Stryker Triathlon partial knee resurfacing (PKR) system was designed to make unicompartmental knee resurfacing (UKR) potentially easier and more straightforward. The Triathlon PKR is a fixed bearing unicompartmental or unicondylar knee that blends a measured resection system with a gap balancing system. The bone-preserving approach eliminates the need to violate the intramedullary (IM) canal, and provides the potential to return patients back to their normal activities. A patented single radius design (designed to provide ligament stability through the range of motion), coupled with the ability to balance the flexion and extension gaps, is intended to produce more stable, natural knee motion. The Triathalon PKR utilizes proprietary X3 advanced crosslinked bearing technology. The device is also anatomically shaped, with the femoral component featuring a 7.5 degree bend to match the natural curve of the femoral condyle, designed to enable surgeons to use advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, which may result in a smaller scar for the patient. The femoral component can withstand up to +/- 10 degrees of misalignment without edge loading. The Stryker PKR is a product of Stryker (Kalamazoo, MI, USA).

Potential benefits of PKR include a quicker operation, performed on an outpatient basis. Additionally, less bone is removed and there is often less trauma to soft tissue during surgery, which may leave the patient with a more natural feeling knee than with a total knee replacement.
