Four new gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy products are intended to aid physicians in electrosurgical procedures, biliary stent placement, and hemostasis control.Posted on 17 Sep 2008
The Axcess multi-directional papillotome is an electrosurgical endoscopic wireguided catheter that is used in conjunction with a flexible endoscope to diagnose disease, clear obstructions, and restore patency in the biliary tract. The Axcess offers physicians incremental, multi-directional tip movement to help them achieve the desired angle of approach and maintain tip position, thus reducing procedure time. Micromobility technology offers the physician greater flexibility and procedural access to the common bile and pancreatic ducts, providing GI therapeutic endoscopists with an innovative solution to initial cannulation issues encountered during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedures.
The Gore Viabil biliary endoprosthesis offers an improved alternative for treating biliary malignancy. Unlike other stenting options, it features a nonporous expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and fluorinated ethylene propylene (ePTFE/FEP) liner that provides a strong, durable barrier to tissue ingrowth. The Viabil flexible nitinol stent has significantly higher radial strength at body temperature than typical metallic biliary stents. An easy-to-use delivery system that features a pull-line deployment delivery system enhances the physician's control and accuracy in biliary stent placement, facilitating device delivery.
The Auto-Band Ligator is used to band esophageal varices (dilated veins that bleed) or hemorrhoids in the colon. The ligation procedure is an alternative to invasive surgery to achieve endoscopic hemostasis. The Auto-Band Ligator controls positioning, ensuring only one band is deployed at a time.
The Beamer System and Beamer Argon snare probes are part of an electrosurgical platform that utilizes radio frequency (RF) electrical energy to ionize a stream of argon gas, which efficiently and rapidly causes hemostasis and resection of lesions during gastroenterology and bronchoscopy procedures. The Beamer system and Argon snare probes offer ease of use, control, and multiple therapies in one system. The platform includes a snare and an argon probe in combined catheter that snares, resects, and beams polyps and lesions with a single probe. All the products are manufactured by Conmed (Utica, NY, USA), and have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
"We are excited about the ever-expanding role endoscopy continues to play in medicine as a whole, and our ability to contribute to advancements in technology,” said Joseph Corasanti, president and CEO of Conmed. "In addition to helping Conmed remain at the forefront of innovation for gastrointestinal endoscopy, these new products are expected to drive near-term growth within our endoscopic technologies division.”
