Ethicon Endo-Surgery Unveils Portfolio of Energy Devices

Complementary energy technologies of both ultrasonic and advanced bipolar devices provide surgeons with multiple energy delivery options to meet specific surgical needs across multiple surgical specialties.

The Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Cincinnati, OH, USA) Harmonic (ultrasonic) and Enseal (bipolar) series of devices provide a range of energy applications to help the surgeons achieve the desired tissue effects. The Enseal bipolar technology offers superior control in large vessel sealing for surgical procedures in general, colorectal, gynecology, and urology, where minimal tissue damage is critical. Both Enseal laparoscopic and open devices contain the energy spread and rapidly seal and transect the tissues, while offering exceptionally large vessel sealing, up to and including 7 mm blood vessels.

The Harmonic range of devices, on the other hand, offer precise application of ultrasonic energy in advanced laparoscopic and open procedures, and minimize adjacent tissue damage to the patient. The versatile devices help the surgeon perform multiple surgical tasks with a single device, leading to overall efficiency improvement over traditional techniques. The range of energy delivery devices in the company's portfolio were presented at the 95th annual clinical congress of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), held during October 2009 in Chicago (IL, USA).
