An elastomeric single incision laparoscopy kit (SILK) self-adjusts to the patient's abdominal wall thickness, optimizing instrument maneuverability and providing enhanced visualization during Single Incision Laparoscopy (SIL) surgery.

The AnchorPort SILK represents a new line of advanced 5-mm trocars that incorporate an integrated elastomeric, stretchable cannula system, which goes into the entry port in an elongated configuration, and self adjusts to accommodate the patient's abdominal wall thickness. Because the elastomeric cannula has a softer outer skin, it is gentler on tissue, thereby minimizing procedure-associated trauma. The cannula's distal tip softly anchors in place within the abdominal cavity, and thus does not pull out prematurely, as can happen to rigid, fixed-length conventional trocars.

The AnchorPort SILK offers bladeless, optical entry, providing the surgeon direct visualization of all tissue layers during the abdominal entry. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a 2.5-cm skin incision through which three or more tiny cannula ports are placed strategically apart, to provide optimal intra-abdominal access. The small, low-profile housing allows cannulae to be placed close together; by nestling a range of varying length cannulae, the surgeon can move without restrictions. After the procedure, the patient is left with a small scar in the belly button that is essentially invisible after healing. The AnchorPort SILK is a product of SurgiQuest (Orange, CT, USA), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"We believe that this is breakthrough for single incision surgery,” said Kurt Azarbarzin, founder and CEO of SurgiQuest. "Every surgeon who has used the AnchorPort SILK device to date has told us that they prefer it because it makes the single incision procedure that much easier to perform. Additionally, AnchorPort 5 mm trocars are also ideal for gynecology and pediatric patients.”
