The TurboHawk Plaque Excision System boasts an innovative design that allows for greater cutting efficiency, providing physicians with more consistent performance and patients with a faster recovery period and shorter hospital visits. The core of the system is the Super Cutter Blade, comprised of four angled cutter blades with a unique design that addresses all plaque morphologies, including moderately to severe calcified lesions. The Smooth Cutter Blade, on the other hand, is designed for the treatment of mild-to-moderately calcified lesions with the added convenience of on-the-wire cleaning. Micro Efficient Compression (MEC) technology, based on tiny laser drilled holes in the nosecone, regulate the release of cleansing fluid to the lesion, allowing greater tissue collection.

Among the other advancements of the system are the turbo catheter jog, which consistently cuts across a wider vessel range, reducing the need for multiple catheters, and potentially reducing procedure costs. The versatile dual-jog configuration is effective in vessels of 3.5 mm - 7.0 mm in diameter, controlling maximum apposition force in smaller vessel diameters and improving cutter apposition force in increasing vessel diameters. A new four-layered, counter-wound drive shaft delivers more power to the cutting blade, with more efficient energy transfer to improve cutting performance and affording smoother passes with less effort to cut through the lesion. The TurboHawk Plaque Excision System is a product of Covidien (North Haven, CT, USA), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
