The PONTiS system is a flexor tendon-repair system that uses a simple, minimally invasive approach to provide increased repair strength, decreased friction, and an early and active motion protocol. Dedicated instrumentation facilitates a knotless repair that delivers significantly stronger fixation, helping patients achieve early, active motion. The system is comprised of high yield strength threaded anchors, compact stainless steel crimps to secure the sutures, and multifilament stainless steel sutures for reattaching the tendon. The PONTiS flexor tendon repair system is a product of Core Essence Orthopedics (Fort Washington, PA, USA).

“PONTiS is unique in that its surgical technique simplifies flexor tendon repairs for surgeons while also delivering a high-strength repair,” said Alan Miller, cofounder and executive vice president of Core Essence Orthopedics. “As the latest addition to our wide portfolio of orthopedic extremity products, we believe PONTiS has the ability to set a new standard in flexor tendon repairs.”
The muscles that bend the fingers are called flexor muscles. The flexor muscles start at the elbow and forearm regions, turning into tendons just past the middle of the forearm, and attach to the bones of the fingers. In the finger, the tendons pass through fibrous rings called pulleys, which guide the tendons and keep them close to the bones, enabling the tendons to move the joints much more effectively. Multiple knot throws in a traditional flexor tendon repair tend to be the weakest and bulkiest part of the repair. Using crimps that are maintained in the confines of the tendon minimizes friction in the pulleys.
