Stroke Treatment Device Quickly Restores Brain Blood Flow

A new retriever rapidly removes blood clots from blocked arteries, a key element when trying to minimize or prevent brain damage in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The Trevo Pro Retriever embolectomy stroke device utilizes proprietary Stentriever Technology, which includes specialized strut orientation designed for efficient clot integration and confident retrieval. The design also incorporated tailored radial force, refined wide cell architecture, and low coverage for rapid clot integration across different clot types. Another important feature is a tubular design with spiral cell alignment, which conforms to the blood vessel with uniform cell area, regardless of turtuosity.


Results from the recent Trevo 2 randomized embolectomy stroke device trial, involving 178 patients at 27 US and European health care facilities, demonstrated that the Trevo Retriever produced a 92% rate of restoring blood flow, versus 76.7% for the Merci Retriever, both developed by Concentric Medical (Mountain View, CA, USA), now a part of Stryker (Kalamazoo, MI, USA;). Patients with the Trevo device also produced improved US National Institutes of Health (NIH) stroke scores and were able to leave the hospital sooner.
