A new line of guidewires features a stainless steel core that allows the treatment of multiple lesions using only one guidewire.Posted on 29 Jul 2013
The Galeo Pro line of guidewires possesses high torque, trackability, increased durability, and excellent shape retention thanks to a high tensile stainless steel core, increasing safety and saving procedure time. A formulated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hydrophilic coating, combined with controlled transmission platform (CTP) technology, helps improve control by letting the clinician feel the frictional forces at the gold-plated platinum, radiopaque distal tip, rather than along the length of the device, aiding operator torque control, and steerability during the guidewire delivery.

The result is a guidewire with smooth core-to-coil transition, high pushability, flexibility, and 1:1 torque response that provide atraumatic reaching and “water-like” lesion crossing. Five different tip configurations offer a full range of guide wires to meet the challenge in interventional cardiology. A proprietary extension wire (EW) provides a fast and reliable method for extending any 175 cm Galeo guide wire to 325 cm exchange length; the extension wire is also detachable to revert to the original length. The Galeo Pro line of guidewires is made by BIOTRONIK (Berlin, Germany).
“With Galeo Pro, we demonstrate once again our commitment to delivering a complete range of innovative, high quality solutions for the interventional cardiologist,” said Alexander Uhl, Vice President of marketing for vascular intervention at BIOTRONIK.
“Successful percutaneous coronary intervention starts with a good guide wire that you can rely on. A guide wire is certainly one of the most important tools for the physician and in many cases determines the success of the procedure,” said Krzysztof Reczuch, MD, of the 4th Military Clinical Hospital (Wroclaw, Poland). “Galeo Pro provides excellent characteristics for both simple and challenging procedures. It delivers outstanding support, torque, and lubricity for easy passage through complex anatomies, as well as enabling the smooth delivery of devices.”
