Flexible Ureterorenoscopes Reduce Intervention Times

Two new flexible digital sensor ureterorenoscopes offer clinicians easier and faster access when imaging narrow ureters.Posted on 13 Feb 2014
The two new ureterorenoscopes are the BOA VISION single-channel ureterorenoscope and the dual-channel ureterorenoscope COBRA VISION. Due to the very small sheath diameter of just 2.8 mm, the BOA VISION can be introduced through ureteral guides with a diameter of just 3.15 mm. This makes it particularly suitable for the treatment of children and adult patients with very narrow ureters. The COBRA VISION, on the other hand, permits the option of using one or two working instruments simultaneously, significantly reducing intervention times compared with single-channel renoscopes.

Common features of both instruments include homogenous light emitting diode (LED) illumination, a digital high-resolution image sensor that provides a large-format, bright, and high-contrast image, obviating the need for white balance adjustment and focusing. The more robust design and high torsional stiffness of the sheaths (compared with the other flexible ureterorenoscopes) allow the instruments to be pushed much more easily through a ureteral guide into the kidney duct system. The BOA VISION and COBRA VISION are products of Richard Wolf (Knittlingen, Germany).
“When we were developing `BOA VISION´ and `COBRA VISION´, we held discussions with leading urologists to find out the aspects of our renoscopes that could be optimized,” said Stefan Gillé, head of product marketing urology at Richard Wolf. “We also incorporated the latest findings from the areas of imaging, illumination, and ergonomics.”
