A reusable platform of micro-laparoscopic instruments features a full line of hand instruments, access devices, scopes, and accessories.

The CareFusion MicroLap instruments include graspers, dissectors, scissors, and needle holders as small as 2.7 mm in diameter. The hand instrumentation is made of a proprietary ceramic titanium alloy material to provide added strength. Scopes are available in 2.7 mm and 2.9 mm diameter options, with varying lens angles available, and the range also includes electrosurgical options and suction and irrigation tools. A wide variety of jaw patterns and handle types are available so that surgeons do not have to compromise choice when switching to the CareFusion MicroLap line.

The full MicroLap line of instruments enables surgeons to use them for any type of laparoscopic surgery, with no limitations on specialty or procedural uses. Use of the micro-laparoscopic instruments leaves an incision scar that is half that of standard 5 or 10 mm laparoscopic instruments, thus eliminating the need to close the incision site with sutures and resulting in a virtually scar-less procedure. The CareFusion MicroLap instruments are manufactured by Gimmi (Tuttlingen, Germany),and are distributed exclusively by CareFusion (San Diego, CA, USA).

“With the trend of miniaturizing surgical procedures, the CareFusion MicroLap line of instruments offers the advantages of smaller incisions with high-quality instrument performance,” said Andreas Lex, vice president and general manager for V. Mueller and Snowden-Pencer surgical instruments for CareFusion. “Smaller incisions provide the benefit of less patient discomfort and less scarring.”
