Workhorse Guide Wire Provides Superior Torque

A new generation of coronary guide wires offer enhanced torque response and optimized tactile feel through complex vascular anatomies.

The updated Galeo guide wires feature a hydrophobic coating over the entire distal section of the guide wire in order to improve tactility in situations that call for a stable feel inside the vessel. For optimal torque response, the guide wires are constructed with of a one-piece core wire, forming a direct connection between the core wire and the distal coil, and thus keeping the core centered while navigating tortuous anatomy. The combination of features both improves torque response and provides precise steerability.

The Galeo guide wire is designed to provide 1:1 torque response and enhanced tracking thanks to controlled transmission platform (CTP) technology, providing optimal torque. The Galeo guidewires are 190 cm in length, and can be quickly and reliably expanded by a further 150 cm with the Galeo extension wire (EW); a range of tip stiffness and levels of support are available. The Galeo guide wires are a product of BIOTRONIK (Berlin, Germany), and have received the European Community CE marking of approval.

“The first users of this new generation Galeo have experienced firsthand the 1:1 torque response and peerless trackability that are the hallmarks of this product line,” said Alexander Uhl, vice president of marketing at BIOTRONIK vascular intervention. “We have listened to physicians’ feedback and created a true workhorse guide wire to round out our unsurpassed portfolio of coronary intervention solutions.”

“The guide wire is an essential tool for interventional cardiologists in daily practice, and it determines the success of a procedure,” said Daniel Weilenmann, MD, head of interventional cardiology at Kantonsspital (St. Gallen, Switzerland). “This new Galeo guide wire with its exceptional torque and flexibility will certainly be the work horse guide wire for many interventional cardiologists.”
