An intuitive electrosurgery generator enables advanced gastrointestinal (GI) and pulmonary therapeutic procedures, including those that may require argon plasma coagulation.

The Olympus Medical (Olympus; Tokyo, Japan) ESG-300 electrosurgery generator offers an intuitive design that enhances user optimization and overall procedural efficiency. A large, easy to read graphical interface operated via an intuitive touch screen facilitates patients setup and adjustment of physician specific procedures. Precise and easy to read error messages simplify fault handling, along with proven safety features that include a fast spark monitor, high power cut support, a contact quality monitor, and a leakage protection sensor.

One of the key benefits of the ESG-300 is the flexibility of using it either as a stand-alone generator or in combination with the Olympus Medical Argon Plasma Unit (APU-300) in order to produce a variety of waveforms to accommodate monopolar, bipolar, and argon plasma coagulation. A SmartArgon mode detects distance to tissue and adjusts required power automatically, a feature that supports consistent hemostasis with reduced carbonization and limits the penetration depth of the plasma beam.

A foot switch with added automatic foot switch assignment to the generator provides simplified set up and a toggle function to allow physicians to transition efficiently through procedural settings. Together with the ESG-300 and the APU-300, Olympus Medical also offers a wide offering of neutral electrodes, including a variety of sizes and designs, skin-friendly surface, and a split-design with hydrogel, which are designed to minimize the risk of pad site burns and to provide optimum skin contact.

“Our complete range of solutions for the GI and pulmonary segments strengthens our position as a full service provider, and gives our customers room to focus increasingly on therapeutic procedures enabled by energy-driven technology,” said Kurt Heine, group vice president of Olympus America. “We are excited to enter into the argon plasma coagulation market and pleased to complete our family of generator offerings. In partnership with our customers, we continue to drive increased quality of care, cost reductions, and patient satisfaction.”
