Augmented Reality System Integrates Intraoperative Data for Hip Arthroscopy

Stryker’s (Portage, MI, USA) SportSuite Vision is a surgical application for Apple Vision Pro that brings key clinical content into the surgeon’s visual space. On September 1, 2026, the company announced the successful completion of the first surgical procedure using SportSuite Vision with Apple Vision Pro at Duke Health. SportSuite Vision received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) De Novo authorization on July 17, becoming the first Apple Vision Pro application authorized for intraoperative use and advancing spatial computing in the operating room.

The system integrates arthroscopic video, HipCheck, HipMap, and computed tomography (CT) imaging within a customizable spatial computing environment, enabling surgeons to view physical anatomy alongside digital tools in a single ergonomic field of view. By positioning multiple data sources within direct line of sight, the technology is intended to reduce reliance on traditional wall-mounted monitors and support a more streamlined OR setup. The approach is aimed at improving access to critical procedural information during complex arthroscopic interventions.

SportSuite Vision Software is indicated for the intraoperative display of arthroscopic video and medical imaging during femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and labral repair hip arthroscopy procedures, as well as the display of the same information presented by the HipCheck software and HipMap FAI Analysis. When in use, surgical tasks are performed through a video see-through augmented reality head-mounted display. Virtual images from the augmented reality system are to be used by the surgeon in conjunction with traditional monitors operated by other OR staff.

This helped create a more comfortable, streamlined OR setup while keeping the information I needed in view,” said Chad Mather III, M.D., M.B.A., an orthopedic surgeon at Duke Health.
