First Human Implant Performed With New Open Mitral Annuloplasty Ring

In mitral valve repair, clinicians aim to preserve the mitral annulus’s three-dimensional motion while providing enough support for effective remodeling. Ring preferences vary between open and closed configurations, while sizing must accommodate a broad range of mitral pathology. A new device now adapts a long-standing semi-rigid annuloplasty platform to an open configuration, giving surgeons an additional option for repair.

Corcym (Milan, Italy) announced the first-in-human implant of Memo 4D Curve, a semi-rigid open-configuration annuloplasty ring for mitral valve repair, performed at UVA Health University Medical Center (Charlottesville, VA, USA). The ring extends more than 20 years of the company’s Nitinol-based Memo technology to an open configuration for surgeons who prefer an open annuloplasty. The Memo platform now encompasses both open and closed configurations.

Memo 4D Curve is designed to preserve the natural three-dimensional motion of the mitral annulus while providing the support needed to remodel it. The device is available in sizes up to 42 mm, addressing pathology from standard degenerative disease to markedly dilated annuli. The ring is FDA-cleared and commercially available in the United States.

The inaugural procedure was performed at UVA Health University Medical Center, reflecting a focus on minimally invasive and robotic approaches. Corcym will formally introduce Memo 4D Curve to the international cardiac surgery community at the EACTS Annual Meeting in October 2026, marking 20 years of the Memo platform.
