Five Surgeons Honored by American College of Surgeons

Five prominent surgeons from different countries were awarded honorary fellowships by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) during its annual Clinical Congress. The recipients were as follows:


Arthur K.C. Li, M.D., FRCS --Vice-Chancellor of the
Chinese University of Hong Kong, People's
Republic of China.

Barry T. Jackson, MB, FRCS, FRCP--President of the
Royal College of Surgeons, London, U.K.

Horst Dieter Becker, M.D.--Head of the department of
surgery at the University Eberhard-Karls,
Tubinger, Germany.

M. Gazi Yasargil, M.D.--Chairman of the department of
neurosurgery, College of Medicine,
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little
Rock, AR, USA.

Sir Miles Irving, Dsc (Hon), M.D., FRCS--Chairman and
honorary professor of surgery at The Newcastle Upon
Tyne Hospitals, Newcastle, U.K.

This year, 1,638 surgeons from around the world were admitted into fellowship in the ACS, increasing the membership to more than 60,000. Since 1913, when the first honorary fellowship was awarded, 371 internationally prominent surgeons have been so honored.
