The Helix Hydro-Jet can be used for precise, selective tissue dissection because water under pressure divides soft tissue while preserving critical structures such as nerves, vessels, and ducts. The device has recently been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in laparoscopic abdominal surgery and total mesorectal excision (TME).

"The approval for use in laparoscopic surgery now allows the benefits of water jet technology to be realized in a wide variety of procedures, such as laparoscopic prostatectomy, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and TME. This clearly demonstrates our commitment to optimizing patient outcomes via this leading edge technology,” said Christian O. Erbe, CEO of Erbe USA, Inc.

Erbe USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH (Tubingen, Germany), a medical device company responsible for the development of the first electrosurgical generator and argon-plasma coagulation for treating gastrointestinal disorders through endoscopes.
