One-Hour Cosmetic Surgery with Lasting Results

An innovation in cosmetic surgery is faster than a conventional face-lift, allowing the procedure to be done in one hour and costing much less than conventional surgery.

Until recently, the only way to repair baggy upper lids or a sagging neck was by an extensive surgical procedure such as a face-lift, an invasive, costly procedure with extensive risk and considerable downtime for patients. The new surgical technique uses specially designed threads, known as Aptos or Georgian threads, which are applied under the skin to lift sagging or aging areas. The procedure is safe, does not require general anesthesia, and can be performed in an office setting. The technique was invented by Dr. Barry Lycka, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada), and his son Georges.

In a study of 390 patients who had undergone the new procedure, 388 said they were pleased with the results. The study was reported at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in San Francisco (CA, USA). "There is no doubt that this technology will largely replace the face-lift,” said Dr. Lycka. "It's like an invisible bra for the skin.”
