The American Transplant Congress 2003, a joint meeting sponsored by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and the American Society of Transplantation (ATC) , will be held May 30-June 4, 2003, in Washington DC (USA).

This is the world's premier conference for surgeons, physicians, scientists, and allied healthcare professionals focusing on the field of basic and clinical transplantation, state the organizers. The goals of the conference are to create an arena for the exchange of new scientific and clinical information; to facilitate discussions of the socioeconomic, ethical, and regulatory issues; to explore clinical and basic science topics in depth; and to provide new information and education for attendees.

Highlights include a review/update course on New Insights in Transplant Immunology and Medical Complications Following Transplantation, designed specifically for nurses and coordinators. A variety of educational discussions will center on heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants. Transplantation topics include cardiovascular disease, artificial heart, organ donor management, inflammation issues, allo-recognition, bioartificial organs, reproductive issues, emerging viruses in organ transplants, and medical complications following transplantation.
