New Dressing Designed for Heel Wounds

A new system designed for heel wounds uses contour foam and dressings that fit the shape of the typical foot for optimum use of negative-pressure wound therapy.

The new dressing is easy to use because it is contoured and simple to apply, quickly creating a seal. Reticulated cells evenly distribute negative-pressure therapy across the wound bed. Hydrophobic dressing material enhances exudate removal to help promote healing. The dressing, called GranuFoam Heel Dressing, is the product of Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (KCI, San Antonio, TX, USA) and uses the company's Vacuum Assisted Closure Therapy. This system helps remove interstitial fluid and infectious materials, allowing tissue decompression. By providing a closed, moist wound-healing environment, the system promotes flap and graft survival as well.
