A speech recognition-based document creation platform will be integrated into an electronic medical records (EMR) system to support digital dictation and back-end and front-end speech recognition, giving healthcare facilities complete control over their document creation workflow.

Philips Speech Recognition Systems (Best, The Netherlands), a division of Royal Philips Electronics, announced that its speech recognition-based document creation platform SpeechMagic will be integrated into the CareRevolution EMR system, developed by Electronic Healthcare Systems (EHS; Birmingham, AL, USA).

CareRevolution, powered by SpeechMagic, will ensure the faster availability of accurate medical data in EMRs. Currently more than 4,000 physicians use CareRevolution to run their practices more effectively and profitably. By upgrading to Philips industrial-grade document creation technology, physicians will be able to choose their preferred dictation and transcription workflow for greater flexibility, mobility, and efficiency.

CareRevolution, powered by SpeechMagic, is fully flexible, allowing physicians to individually choose their preferred dictation workflow and easily switch between the various transcription methods at any time. SpeechMagic will also allow physicians to navigate and control the EMR through voice commands, eliminating the distractions of keyboard or mouse.

CareRevolution was developed by EHS to increase efficiency in medical practices and to stimulate a more profitable workflow in one single, point-of-care system. The system was recognized in the United States as the winner of the first Towards the Electronic Patient Record (TEPR) Pediatric EHR Recognition Program.

Using the document creation platform SpeechMagic, hospitals can increase productivity and reduce administration costs. The over 8,000 installations of SpeechMagic worldwide include hospital- and region-wide deployments in the United States and Europe.
