Web-Based Cardiology System Created for DICOM Study Sharing

Web-based cardiology technology for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) study sharing was recently utilized during a cardiovascular conference.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a provider of information technology- (IT)-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging systems, reported that its CardioNow WebSend solution was shared with conference attendees at the 2007 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference in Washington, D.C, USA, held from October 20-25, 2007. The conference deployed the same technology used everyday by investigator sites, core labs, and trial sponsors to accelerate their clinical trial workflow.

TCT is the world's largest scientific symposium for healthcare professionals dedicated to interventional vascular therapy. Some of the events of this conference were the live case sessions that involved the broadcasting of live interventional studies from leading cardiovascular centers worldwide. This year, 27 sites from countries including Germany, France, Israel, Brazil, Korea, China, New Zealand, India, and the United States performed live cases, which were simultaneously broadcast to conference attendees. Agfa Healthcare's CardioNow WebSend DICOM study-sharing software was used to electronically transfer complete high-quality angiographic and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) studies to the conference, where they were reviewed in native DICOM format from CardioNow diagnostic workstations located throughout the Washington Convention Center or via standard personal computers (PCs) with Internet access. This functionality enabled attendees rapid and easy access to review, discuss, and analyze complete cases they may have missed during the many concurrent live sessions.
