A handheld, wireless spirometer enables in-home tracking and monitoring of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The Cohero Health mobile spirometer assesses critical lung function metrics as precisely as clinical-grade spirometers, including peak flow, forced vital capacity (FVC), and forced expiratory volume (FEV1), thus providing a much more accurate picture of lung health. The mobile spirometer is paired via Bluetooth with a smartphone or tablet, enabling real-time measurement and reporting via the AsthmaHero and BreatheSmart applications. The data can be integrated into clinical workflows, to empower decision making at point of care, or as a long-term patient monitoring tool.

The apps can also deliver customized medication reminders and check medication compliance via proprietary HeroTracker sensors. They can thus track and analyze the effects on lung function of maintenance and rescue medication use, along with external triggers. In conjunction with the mobile spirometer, the integrated, connected healthcare platform can help improve clinical decision making and prevent acute events. The mobile spirometer is a product of Cohero Health (New York, NY, USA).

“We are enhancing respiratory care by recording critical measurements over time, outside of a physician’s office,” said Melissa Manice, PhD, MPH, co-founder and CEO of Cohero Health. “This longitudinal view of changes in lung function over time, in parallel with medication adherence tracking, equips physicians to partner with their patient to make more informed treatment decisions together.”

“The inclusion of a mobile spirometer in our platform allows stakeholders to track, for the first time ever, how patients are using their medication, and how they are responding to their medication, in real time,” added Daniel Weinstein, co-founder and COO of Cohero Health. “Through robust tracking, motivating better behaviors, and early identification of potential acute events, the Cohero Health platform enables better patient management, reduced costs to the healthcare system, and most importantly, healthier patients.”
