Electrical Impedance Tomography Developed to Identify Brain Hemorrhaging in Preterm Babies

A new US grant is helping researchers to develop a device that not only monitors preterm infants’ delicate brains, but also identifies intraventricular bleeding as soon as it begins. More...

Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI Scanning May Reduce Breast Biopsies

Water diffusion measurements coupled with magnetic resonance imaging could decrease false-positive breast cancer findings and reduce preventable biopsies. More...

Image: Shown is an optical mammography image of hemoglobin oxygenation of a duct carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a breast cancer in the lining of the milk ducts that has not yet invaded nearby tissues. In this image, the boxed area corresponds to the cancer location and indicates lower values of hemoglobin oxygenation. For cancerous tissue that is associated with abnormal hemoglobin concentration and oxygenation, optical mammography can be used to help diagnose breast cancer and also indicate how well a patient responds to breast cancer chemotherapy (Photo courtesy of Tufts University Medical Center).

Optical Mammography Effectively Diagnoses Breast Cancer

New optical imaging technology could provide clinicians with strategies to both identify breast cancer and track individual patients’ response to initial treatment of the disease. More...

Computerized Osteoporosis Detection Technology Based on X-Ray Digitization, Computer Algorithm

A computerized tool has been developed to inspect patient bone X-rays for diagnosis of osteoporosis, and could eliminate the subjectivity associated with the visual examination. More...

MR and Interstitial Fluid Pressure Levels Offer Potential Biomarker for Tumor Aggressiveness

Researchers have validated a noninvasive imaging modality that provides valuable data about interstitial fluid pressure of solid tumors, and may aid in the identification of aggressive tumors. More...
