Smart Pulse Oximeter Proactively Identifies Respiratory Issues

A novel wireless finger device helps identify concerns in patients with challenging respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and address them by early intervention.

The NoninConnect Elite Model 3240 Bluetooth measures arterial blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate, using state-of-the-art low energy Bluetooth Smart wireless technology to allow clinicians to remotely view their patients' readings in real time from up to 10 meters away. The device features Nonin PureSAT pulse oximetry technology, which provides SpO2 and pulse rate readings from small to large fingers, good to poor perfusion, and dark to light skin tones. The long battery life provides up to 2,200 spot checks on two AAA batteries.

Clinicians and patients can also easily save or share their SpO2 history via e-mail, using a proprietary iOS mobile app on compatible Apple device; patients can also share spot-check readings via Apple's Health app. Compatible devices with the NoninConnect Elite and the NoninConnect app include the iPhone 4S and newer, iPad 3 and newer, all iPad Air and iPad Minis, and the iPod Touch 5th edition and newer, all with Apple iOS 8.1 or newer installed. The NoninConnect Elite Model 3240 Bluetooth oximeter is a product of Nonin Medical (Minneapolis, MN, USA), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Making the right decision for patients who have COPD and complicating co-morbidities such as chronic heart failure often depends on getting an accurate oxygen saturation reading,” said Rick Eagle, vice president of sales for Nonin Medical. “A new independent hypoxia lab study on humans, which simulated COPD patient conditions, demonstrates that Nonin's PureSAT pulse oximetry technology captures and reports worsening patient conditions better.”

Nonin PureSAT pulse oximetry technology utilizes pulse-by-pulse filtering of the entire plethysmographic waveform to provide precise oximetry measurements, even in the presence of motion, low perfusion, or other challenging conditions. PureSAT automatically adjusts to each patient's condition by using pulse signal processing pre-filters to remove undesirable signals. Advanced algorithms then separate the pulse signals from artifact and interference, leaving only the true pulse.
