A digital radiographic imaging device utilizing storage phosphor technology to test patients at risk for osteoporosis and related bone fractures has received the CE Mark and also ISO 9001/EN 46001 certification.Posted on 22 Nov 2000
Called MetriScan, the device is the product of Alara Incorporated (Hayward, Ca, USA). MetriScan allows doctors to perform in-office bone mineral density (BMD) testing of patients. Unlike ultrasound or some other currently available tests, MetriScan is a dry test that does not require any gels or preparation time. A test takes less than two minutes. The doctor inputs patient data and then scans the patient's fingers. MetriScan calculates a T-score and displays it. The results can be printed out.
"The CE Mark allows our company to move forward in our goal to provide greater accessibility to BMD testing for both doctors and patients,” said Allan Fleischer, Ph.D., president and CEO of Alara.
