A new continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device customizes therapy by monitoring pressure requirements thousands of times per night.

The Z1 Auto CPAP automatically responds to changes in breathing patterns and delivers maximum comfort by using the lowest possible therapy pressure throughout the sleep cycle. The proprietary breathing algorithm and sampling rate of several times per second assures extremely responsive and effective therapy at lower overall pressures than fixed-pressure CPAP devices, resulting in a more responsive therapy, a natural breathing pattern, and a more comfortable experience.

Proprietary integrated PowerShell technology and an overnight lithium-ion battery module provide enhanced portability, as together they serve as a surrogate power supply for built-in charging using the standard Z1 power adapter. A soft, padded neoprene skin which covers a solid plastic skeleton ensures that the Z1 Auto is securely fitted into the PowerShell. A heat/moisture exchanger (HME), custom tube adaptors, and other accessories are available for a variety of masks.

The device can also be paired with the Nitelog Apple iOS app, which syncs upon command to display immediate and complete therapy results, including apnea/hypopnea index and count, usage hours, and pressure. The results are available in day-week-month presentations and may be shared with a healthcare provider or physician by e-mail. The Z1 Auto CPAP is a product of Human Design Medical (HDM; Allston, MA, USA), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The Z1 Auto alone is a giant leap forward in CPAP technology and portability, and coupling it with Nitelog has created a CPAP user's best friend,” said Steve Moore, senior vice president of sales and marketing at HDM. “Now users can sync their device with their phone to monitor their sleep data as their first activity upon awakening. This truly is an exciting advancement for a sleep therapy device that was designed with the user in mind.”
