Robust Wheelchair Scale Weighs Bariatric-Size Patients
By HospiMedica International staff writers Posted on 26 May 2015 |
A new portable digital wheelchair scale features a low-profile platform with two-way, easy-access integral ramps for efficient wheelchair loading.
The Detecto BRW1000 digital scale provides a robust 450-kilogram capacity for use with patients in manual or power wheelchairs, dialysis patients, or walk-ons. The weighing platform measures an extra-large 100-cm wide by 75-cm deep to accommodate oversized bariatric wheelchairs; for added comfort, a patient may be wheeled onto the scale and the chair tare weight keyed in. Integral dual wheels, two carrying handles, and a relatively lightweight 25-kg frame, together with battery operation, allow for versatile weighing use throughout a healthcare facility.
The BRW1000 features the proprietary MedVue digital weight indicator, which provides brilliant blue LCD readouts with 22-mm weight digits, and up to 14-digit patient IDs that may be entered via a color-coded keypad. Weight, height, and body mass index (BMI) patient measurement data can be output to electronic medical record (EMR) software through the standard RS 232 serial or universal serial bus (USB) ports, or through optional wired or Wi-Fi Ethernet connectivity.
Four stainless steel load cells feature self-aligning feet, so that when the scale comes to rest from transport mode it will automatically find the most level surface for weighing. A non-skid rubber mat provides traction for patients standing barefoot or wheelchair tires to grip for assurance and stability. The BRW1000 bariatric wheelchair scale is a product of Detecto (Webb City, MO, USA).
