CHOP and Mount Sinai to Collaborate in New York

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP; PA, USA) has collaborated with the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS; New York, NY, USA) to offer pediatric services in the New York City metropolitan area.

The collaboration is intended to leverage the uniqueness of both institutions to create a new and distinct service for the greater New York community, blending the strength and presence of Mount Sinai's services with CHOP's pediatrics expertise and cutting-edge therapies. Under the initial phase of the collaboration, a joint pediatric oncology program will start by the end of 2015 that will provide access to the newest treatments and expertise in pediatric cancer. Programs in cardiac care and fetal medicine will follow the initial phase.

“Over the recent past, CHOP has systematically sought strategic alliances with leading hospital systems, mainly in the southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey markets. The alliance with the Mount Sinai Health System emerged from a shared vision and commitment to making the very best care available to more children,” said Madeline Bell, president of CHOP. “Our decision to join with MSHS in the New York region reflects both the respect and admiration we have for Mount Sinai, and recognition of the needs of the region for world-class pediatric medical care.”

“Mount Sinai is pleased to collaborate with CHOP, a world-renowned institution, to ensure excellent patient care. Our goal is to offer the highest quality care to pediatric patients, especially those with complex needs, across a large health system and a fast growing ambulatory care network,” said Kenneth Davis, president of MSHS. “Together, we will be uniquely positioned to recruit and retain the best faculty in the region.”

“Working together, Mount Sinai and CHOP will drive innovation in medicine at the national level, going beyond even providing the best care to creating the next generation of treatments for pediatric diseases,” said Dennis Charney, MD, president for academic affairs at MSHS and dean of the Icahn School of Medicine. “One goal of this effort is to generate unique medical insights by caring for the largest pediatric population of any health system in the region.”

MSHS is composed of seven hospital campuses, a fast-growing ambulatory network, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (New York, NY, USA). CHOP is ranked among the best children's hospitals in the United States and is a leading pediatric service provider in the country.
