KIMES 2014 Points to the Future of Medical Technology

The 30th Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES; Seoul) took place from March 13 to March 16, 2014, at the COEX convention and exhibition center (Seoul, Korea), under the theme of “Smart World for Better Life.”
The 2014 show attracted 1,095 companies from 38 countries including the United States, Germany, England, Japan, China, Italy, and Taiwan, introducing 30,000 medical advances, including a variety of medical services, a range of diagnostic apparatus’, medical examination equipment, traditional oriental medical equipment, hospital information systems, physical therapy devices, surgical and dental equipment, and medical equipment for vets. Pharmaceutical devices, physiotherapy apparatus, ophthalmic care technology, disposables, and many other fields were also represented.
The largest medical trade fair in Northeast Asia filled 38,385 m2 of exhibition space, representing a wide range of products by 510 Korean manufacturers, 99 from the United States, 68 from Japan, 77 from Germany 77, 124 from China, and many other international manufacturers. The show successfully highlighted the increasingly important role played by Korean domestic companies such as Samsung, Listem, JW Choongwae, DK Medical, and BIT Computer. In addition, the presence of world leading brands such as GE, Fuji, Shimadzu, and Hitachi attracted visitors from all over Asia.
In all, 71,241 professionals attended the show, which also offered diverse educational conferences and an international forum for medical professionals. In all, 113 seminars were held, covering diverse topics that included government policies on the medical devices market, innovative technologies and their implementation in medical devices, and financial technology for healthcare. The Korean International Academic Conference of Radiological Technology and the Seoul Physical Therapy Association annual conference were also held concomitantly.
